Roberto Serrano, Jr. is the President & Senior Master Instructor for Martial Arts America, located in Greendale, Wisconsin. With 30 years of high level international martial arts experience, and more than 26 years in business, he has developed an award-winning curriculum that integrates the development of leadership skills with martial arts training for the entire family.
As a child, he grew up in inner-city Chicago. As a result of most of his relatives living on Milwaukee's Southside, that is where he spent most of his free time. He later began his martial arts training at Kenosha Tremper where he attended high school. He continued his formal martial arts leadership training as a Cadet at the United States Air Force Academy and member of the Air Force Karate Team in Colorado Springs. He then worked as a full time certified police officer while working full time towards his Accounting Degree at UW-Milwaukee while still teaching martial arts and competing on the national level before dedicating his life to teaching Martial Arts and Leadership to families.
Roberto is an Internationally Certified 8th Degree Master Instructor with extensive experience in many different styles of martial arts. He also has been recognized as one of the top instructors in the country, and has personally won many World & International Championships, and has been inducted in the Martial Arts Hall of Fame as a competitor, instructor and school owner. Most recently, he was inducted into the Latin American Martial Arts Society Hall of Fame in Guayama, Puerto Rico. His most cherished accomplishments are those attained by his students and the numerous lives he has helped to improve through martial arts and community service. His training programs have resulted in numerous life-changing success stories at all age levels. The younger students became more focused and better behaved children that used their increased confidence to raise their academic performance, overcome physical and mental challenges, become leaders instead of followers and become champions in whatever they involved themselves in. Other student accomplishments include winning numerous world champions, receiving numerous college scholarships, pursuing rewarding education and careers as PhD's in Genetics, Dentists, Political Science, Engineering, and Medical professionals, military leadership, law enforcement, firefighters and numerous business owners/entrepreneurs.
Roberto is also very active in the Hispanic and Business community. He is currently a Board Member for the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Wisconsin, Board Member and Past President of Greendale Chamber of Commerce, and most recently one of the Charter Members of the new Rotary Amigos De Milwaukee. His efforts in the community have previously earned him recognition as the Business of the Year by Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of WI in 2007 and also by the Greendale Chamber of Commerce in 2009 and in 1999.
In the martial arts world, he is currently a Board Member of the FILA World Pankration Athlima Committee and the Pan-American Director for FILA Pankration. Additionally, he is a member of many prestigious international martial arts associations keeping him at the cutting edge of each martial arts style he is involved in.
He is joined in his commitment to the community by his wife Johanna Del Portillo-Serrano. Together, they have two small children, Katarina and Dario
